Principal Infrastructure Engineer Role & Responsibilities
As Principal Infrastructure Engineer, you will play a senior technical role within the Specialist Data Centre Services team, contributing to innovative infrastructure solutions for large-scale compute and storage platforms. This hands-on position offers the opportunity to lead the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of infrastructure, ensuring security, compliance, and operational excellence. Your main responsibilities will include:
- Cloud Infrastructure Design: Capture and develop client requirements, coordinate with internal and external stakeholders, and produce solution designs.
- Implementation Lead: Oversee project teams to ensure smooth client workload migration and successful deployment.
- Technical Escalation: Act as the escalation point for complex incidents and problem management, supporting the operations team.
- Security and Compliance: Design and implement centralised controls to meet security and compliance requirements.
- Collaboration & Documentation: Work with cross-functional teams to document technical processes, creating resources accessible to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Your Skills & Experience
The ideal candidate will bring strong technical skills, collaborative problem-solving, and a results-oriented mindset.
Essential:
- 5+ years in a Senior Infrastructure support or engineer role.
- Deep expertise in enterprise server, storage, hypervisors, and operating systems.
- Familiarity with Dell PowerEdge, PowerVault, PowerStore, PowerScale, PowerMAX.
- Experience with Windows Server OS, Linux, Unix OS, VMware ESXi, Active Directory.
- Knowledge of cloud security practices, IAM, encryption, and data protection.
- Exceptional communication skills with proven ability to influence technical decisions.
Desirable:
- Knowledge of IBM FlashSystem, QNAP, and regulatory compliance (ITIL, ISO standards).
- Experience in security controls for cloud environments.
- Full UK driving licence.
